The thing almost everybody gets wrong
Lakewood Ranch sits in two counties. The line runs right through it, and it decides which schools your kids are zoned for. Families tour a house they love and only work this out later. It is the first thing in the guide for a reason.

What is inside
Written for a family with kids in tow, not for a tourist. Every number in it is sourced, and where something changes year to year I say so instead of guessing.
Schools, and the county line that decides them
The Manatee and Sarasota county line runs straight through Lakewood Ranch, and which side your house sits on decides where your kids go. Named schools, the 2026-27 rezoning, school choice deadlines, and what you need to enroll a child mid-year.
Getting your kids into things
Soccer, baseball, hockey at Ellenton, lacrosse, swim, dance, gymnastics, Scouts. Which season each one runs, and the sign-up windows that close before newcomers know they exist.
Your first 30 days
Florida gives you a hard deadline on your driver's licence and your plates. Plus utilities by neighborhood, pediatricians and urgent care, library cards, and the homestead exemption you have to file for.

Who is writing this
I am Sekina. I sell real estate in Lakewood Ranch, and I am a mom of four boys. We did this move ourselves, out of state, with the kids, and started over somewhere we did not know anybody.
That is why the guide reads the way it does. I am not summarising a brochure. I am telling you the parts that caught us out, so they do not catch you out too.
